Many of my interactions with Noah seem to be more like a complicated chess game. He counts his moves...trying to come up with unique ways to not do something...anything that he perceives as work -- this could be brushing his teeth, combing his hair, etc.
Scenario #1
Me: Noah don't forget to put away your dishes
Noah: But I can't
Me: Yes, you can
Noah: No, I can't.
Me: Okay, I give -- why not?
Noah: Because it would be wasteful.
(I look at his half eaten bowl of mushy cereal and a plate with a few bites of egg)
Me: Are you going to eat these items later?
Noah: No.
Me: Ok, rinse them off and put them away.
Noah: Ok
(I return to the kitchen to see the dishes in the sink.)
Me: Noah, your dishes need to be put in the dishwasher...you know that.
Noah: Oh...I thought you just wanted me to put them in the sink.
Scenario #2
Me: Noah did you feed and water your gerbils.
Noah: Yes
Me: You did? Today?
Noah: No
Me: You need to give them fresh food and water every day.
Noah: Oh
(These kinds of things play out no less than 10 times a day)

Musings From Natalie #155
"Mom, for my birthday would you get me a dictionary?...I mean, I know I can just google words, but it's just not as satisfying as looking them up in a book."

Star Wars Cardinal Fan Fest
Last night as our family pulled into the Grant's View Library parking lot, we were lucky enough to grab one of the few remaining spots. A long line of Star Wars and Cardinals fans snaked along the length of the lot. The featured guests included Ashley and David Eckstein. Ashley Eckstein, voice of Ahsoka Tano was set to talk about her new book, "It's Your Universe" while David Eckstein, former Cardinals player would also be taking autographs.
While I knew Ashley was part of the Star Wars franchise, what I didn't realize was the positive impact and role she has played in supporting girls and women who love sci-fi. She began voicing Ahsoka in 2008 and went shopping for a women's Star Wars t-shirt she could wear to conventions and events, but couldn't find any. In 2010 she started Her Universe - the groundbreaking fangirl fashion company and lifestyle brand. She wanted to create items girls could wear every day (not costumes) to express their fandom. Today, Her Universe is a multi-million dollar empire.
In her book, "It's Your Universe - You Have the Power to Make it Happen" Ashley shares her own life lessons, as well as lessons from iconic Disney characters, as a way to inspire girls and boys to create big dreams and work to make them come true.
Noah was so excited to meet "Ahsoka" and have her sign his book. In fact he began reading it right away even though he is not typically a fan of "chapter books" -- he really enjoyed the positive, can-do messages she shares throughout.

When Nat was born (11/15/06) Mercy Hospital sent us home with a tiny-T featuring the recent Cardinals World Series win. At that time Eckstein was named MVP. He happily signed her shirt.

Deep Thoughts From Noah #89
Noah: OOOWWW!
Me: Are you okay?
Noah: No! I hurt my foot on the wall!
Me: Did the wall move?
Noah: No! It's because we have a small house...why do we have to have a small house?
Me: Noah, we live in this house because that's what we can afford.
Noah: Hmmff...I feel like that's just an excuse.

Happy Birthday to our Favorite Senior Citizen!
Fifty-one tax days ago...our Steve-o was born.
"So...Dad, can we call you a senior citizen now?" asked Natalie
Steve is pretty much a 'no fuss, I don't need anything for my birthday and since I've eliminated sugar from my diet no need to make me a cake' -- kind of guy.
However, I've known this man for nearly 20 years and while he may have removed sugar from his diet, there is one dish I know he cannot say no to -- biscuits and gravy.
Oh yeah.
But since Steve is a connoisseur of said meal, Natalie and I purchased all the ingredients he would need to make it himself.
We're good like that.
Then Natalie and I shopped at Barnes & Noble. She used her own money to purchase him a gardening book to support his passion for growing things.

Musings From Natalie #154
This past weekend Steve, Nat and I enjoyed the sunshine while strolling the neighborhood. (Nevermind that tonight temps in St. Louis are supposed to dip down to the mid 20's). In any case the walk served to stir up her creative juices and she has some new material...
Hey Mom! Wanna hear some new jokes I made up?
Sure!
What does a flower call its friend?
I don't know, what?
His bud-dy!
What is a frog's favorite flower?
What?
A crocus!
