Deep Thoughts From Noah #59

Noah: "Mom, would you rather spend the rest of your life at the beach with some friends or be home with your family for the rest of your life?"

Me: "Though I love the beach...I'd miss my family...eventually. I'd stay with family."

Noah: "Do you know what I would choose?"

Me: "Of course! You'd pick family."

Noah: "No, I'd pick my friends."

Me: "Really?"

Noah: "Yeah, but I'd have a phone.  I could just call you when I wanted.  I know your number."

(And to think -- once I had his number...My kid is growing up!)

Deep Thoughts From Noah #58

Me: Oh my gosh! I can't believe it. It's nine degrees.

Noah: What?! It does not feel like it is that cold to me...I think it only feels like 13 degrees.

Deep Thoughts From Noah #57

"Mom, even when you get mad at me...I still love you."

"Mom, I know I've had these veggie fries before, but I don't think I can eat them tonight.  My stomach is telling me 'access denied'.

Valentine's Wrap Up 2015

Over the years Valentine's Day has become one of my favorite holidays.   I like it mainly because I don't have any expectations beyond spending the day with my family and good friends.  For the past six years part of our tradition has included dinner at White Castles. Though sliders are not my first choice, the price is right and the kids are free to be silly and enjoy themselves.  Besides, who needs diamond rings...when you can have chicken rings.

I awoke to the smell of pancakes.  It seems pinterest is not just for women...
The kids received these adorable handmade valentines from their babysitter (who dared to grow up and graduate from college and get a real job). Thank you, Madi!
Madi created these tiny little pouches to hold paper hearts with flower seeds embedded in them.
We spent the afternoon bowling with our dear friends - the Brauns.

Our stomachs and hearts were full to the brim.

Read & Ramble #1: Trumpet of the Swan

Last weekend Spring was in the air with temps reaching as high as 69 degrees!

Hmmm...perhaps Puxatony Phil had it wrong.

In any case, my family and I took advantage of the weather to enjoy an outdoor picnic and stroll along the grounds of the Audubon Center at Riverlands.  It was the last weekend of their Winter Bird series and a great opportunity to experience birdwatching especially since the kids and I have been reading E.B. White's, The Trumpet of the Swan.

As we gazed in awe at the massive, majestic Trumpeter Swans flying in unison or resting together on the semi-frozen lake, I had an idea for how I might continue the momentum of reading with my children.  Recalling the TBS Show, Dinner and a Movie, I decided I'd like to find more books we could enjoy together and pair with an outing that matches the theme of the book. I'm calling it Read & Ramble. If you have a pairing suggestion, I'd love to hear from you.

The Tree House Wiuldlife Center was on hand with a red-shouldered hawk.  Noah asked lots of great questioins.
Enjoying the sunshine in February is berry nice.
